When the British Empire had agreed to give independence to its principle colonies in Asia and Africa, it still thought it could retain Aden, but Egyptian-inspired Arabs in Aden proved as violent and determined as any opponent the British had faced. We hear the story of the end of 128 years of British rule in this obscure corner of the Arabian Peninsula. The federation of South Arabia became the peoples republic of Yemen, a marxist state, and an ally of the Soviet Union.
