Description

Richard Branson is the chairman of one of the biggest privately owned companies - Virgin Group Plc. He went to Stowe Private school and left when he was seventeen years old and started a Student Advisory Centre and magazine. In 1970 he founded Virgin Mail Order Company and later expanded the group to a chain of Virgin record shops, a recording company and Virgin Atlantic Airlines. The group is also involved in retail, communications and holidays. The latest enterprise for the group is Virgin Cola drink which was launched in 1994. Richard owns a country house, an apartment in London and his own island, Necker, located in the Virgin Islands, Caribbean. Richard has a very flamboyant and approachable personality and he encourages staff to regularly communicate and socialise with him. In 1991 he attempted to cross the Pacific in a balloon with Per Lindstrand, but unfortunately the balloon crashed in to the sea just off Ireland.
